About

The Smile and Dash Story

All it takes is one kind word.

It’s a simple phrase, but it carries a world of wisdom.

Working in hospitality for years has taught me this: small gestures of kindness can make a world of difference. Kindness strengthens relationships, improves the health of our heart, slows aging, and makes us live longer. A practice of kindness fortifies our wiring, and we start to see the world in a positive light.

Study after study has revealed that compassionate giving makes us feel good, and makes us stronger. We feel happier when we perform acts of kindness, and its been proven that people who are kind and compassionate are the most successful. I’m sure we can all attest that we feel inner calm, experience clear thinking, and have a heart full of love when we are kind. There’s simply no downside to giving.

I believe deeply that small acts create big change. That belief led me to start this movement that is dedicated to transforming the world one thoughtful gesture at a time. We can’t always shape the behavior of our politicians or the culture of our workplaces, but we can offset negativity with kindness.

There’s something uniquely meaningful about sharing a kind thought in writing. I’ve kept boxes of notes from family and friends over the years, each one a little treasure. Some messages become favorites—they end up taped to my mirror for days or rest on the kitchen counter where they greet me every morning. Some small notes have served as bookmarks or get tucked in my wallet.

I hope you’ll feel inspired to spread goodwill, one card at a time. I’ve priced the cards to cover materials and postage—the labor is my gift. This movement isn't about making money. It's about making a difference.

To turbocharge the effects of your kindness, share your experience on Instagram at #SmileAndDash and on Facebook, and email your story to info@SmileAndDash.com. I’d love to feature it on the website.

Have fun spreading happiness with your Smile and Dash cards, one note at a time!

Dashingly yours,

Your Founding Dasher

P.S. I’ve chosen to remain anonymous because this movement isn’t about me - it’s about you and the impact you create. Thanks for joining the mission!
